The Beijing Olympics has witnessed so many superlative performances, most of which are set to go down in history.

　　1. Michael Phelps - most titled athlete

           八金得主——菲尔普斯

  Michael "Super Fish" Phelps swept eight gold medals in as many days and is behind seven new world records. His races were watched by U.S. President George Bush and the world's richest person Bill Gates, while famous tennis player Serena Williams wants his autograph. The word, Phelpsian, has been coined, meaning unprecedented victory.

　　2008年北京奥运会，菲尔普斯夺得八枚金牌，破了七项世界纪录，打破了泳坛名将马克·斯皮兹保持了36年的曾被认为无法接近的纪录。菲尔普斯个人共收获了十四枚奥运金牌，创造了他人难以逾越的纪录。
2. Usain Bolt - most benevolent sprinter   

 牙买加新飞人——博尔特

   The world's fastest man has a big heart. Bolt has donated 50,000 U.S. dollars to earthquake victims in southwest China's Sichuan province.

　　博尔特——牙买加田径选手。在男子一百米、二百米、四乘一百米决赛中均以打破世界纪录的成绩夺冠。
3. Matthew Emmons -- most tragic coincidence  

          “倒霉蛋”埃蒙斯
   Emmons blew an Olympic shooting gold in 2004 when he fired at a wrong target. In Beijing, the American squandered a huge lead by hitting a 4.4-point last shot.

　　从雅典到北京，这一枪原本能击碎四年的噩梦，这一枪原本能成就一对奥运金牌夫妻，这一枪原本能写下一个童话般的结局。但历史总有惊人的相似之处。和四年前一样，卡捷琳娜坐在看台上给捷克电视台当解说嘉宾；马特站在男子50米步枪三姿的决赛2号靶位上；4.4的数字出现在显示屏上，冰冻了卡捷琳娜的脸，她张着嘴巴，眼睛一眨不眨，愣了好几秒钟，然后冲下看台，把丈夫拥入怀里，在他耳边轻轻地说：“命中注定还不是时候。”

4. Liu Xiang - most shocking withdrawal   

            悲壮退赛——刘翔
　　Defending Olympic champion Liu Xiang of China pulled out of the 110m hurdles race injured, shocking the whole world.

　　8月18日，万众瞩目的刘翔在男子110米栏第一轮比赛中就因伤退出比赛，应该是国人在本届奥运会上最失落的事情。刘翔的退赛让现场观众一阵错愕。不过最终人们都对刘翔表示了理解，毕竟受伤是每个运动员难以避免的事情。刘翔的退赛也使得古巴小将罗伯斯少了挑战，在决赛中轻松夺冠。不过，一向乐观的刘翔并没有被这次退赛打倒，经过短暂的情绪调整后，已经向罗伯斯发出挑战：罗伯斯，等着我！
 
5. Xie Yalong - most criticized official    

            黑色幽默——中国足协谢亚龙

　　Xie Yalong, vice chairman of the Chinese Football Association, has become a target of internet lashing and sneering, following the Chinese men's soccer team's disastrous show in Beijing.

　　在中国，足球成了黑色幽默的代言词，而上任以来不遗余力创新低的足协掌门谢亚龙，更是成了网民的恶搞来源，“谢亚龙下课”出现在和中国队无关的比赛，被外国人当成加油声。中国足球没有冲出亚洲，但谢主席却冲到了世界。

6. Dana Abdulrazak - most heroic runner    

            最美的女孩——达娜·侯赛因
　　Iraqi women runner Dana Abdul-Razzaq has received as loud applause as champions. The Iraqi team's only woman faced many obstacles to reach Beijing, from a sniper's bullets to a lack of training facilities and religious and cultural opposition to female athletes.

　　Before the Olympics, she was told that Iraq was shut out of the international sports gala. When her coach consoled her by saying that she could take part in the 2012 Olympics, she broke into tears, "who knows if I could live that long!"

　　穿二手跑鞋参加奥运会的美丽女孩--达娜·侯赛因。他们在枪声中备战穿二手跑鞋冒弹雨训练“谁知道我能不能活到2012年。” ———伊拉克短跑选手达娜·侯赛因 短跑选手达娜·侯赛因是唯一代表伊拉克参加2008北京奥运会的女性运动员，她将参加100米和200米两个项目的比赛。她自己买比赛服，然后缝上国旗。

　7. Matthias Steiner - most soulful celebration    

            铁汉柔情——马蒂亚斯·施泰纳
　　When the German Hercules mounted the gold medal podium, he was not alone. Clutching a snapshot of his late wife Susann, he choked, "She's always with me, in the hours before the competition. She's there..." On the picture, Susann beamed, while on the audience stands, many wept.

　　8月19日，和德国运动员马蒂亚斯·施泰纳一同出现在最高领奖台上的还有他美丽妻子苏姗的照片。照片中，他去世的妻子甜美地笑着，而施泰纳却哭了。这位男子举重105公斤以上级的冠军要把这枚北京奥运会最“重”的金牌献给亡妻。

 
 
　8. Natalie du Toit - most adamant swimmer    

            单腿美人鱼——纳塔莉·杜托伊特

 　　Du Toit from South Africa, who lost her left leg in a motor accident and uses a prosthetic leg to walk, completed the guelling Olympic 10-kilometer open water swimming race. Having competed against able-bodied athletes, du Toit will now focus on the Beijing Paralympics.

　　20日当一位只有一条腿的选手出现在北京奥运会女子10公里马拉松游泳比赛中时，观众再次感受到奥林匹克精神的伟大——她就是南非残疾人选手纳塔莉·杜托伊特。
9. Ara Abrahamian - most furious medalist    

            怒摔奖牌———阿拉-阿布拉哈米
　After a wrestling match, bronze medalist Ara Abrahamian snarled at the judge as his bid for gold was ended by a decision, which both his coach and himself considered unfair. During the awarding ceremony, the Swede threw the medal on the mat and stormed off.

　　男子古典式摔跤84公斤级颁奖仪式上，出现惊人一幕，季军获得者瑞典人阿拉-阿布拉哈米安因不满比赛结果怒摔奖牌。赛后的颁奖仪式上，由于极度失望，他将奖牌扔到了摔跤垫中央。摔完他不满地说道：“我不在乎这块奖牌，我要的是金牌。”之后，一名教练员才从摔跤垫上捡回了这枚铜牌，但那时候，阿布拉哈米安早已回到了运动员休息室。

 　10. Sarah Stevenson - most dramatic overturn    

              戏剧性翻盘——史蒂文森
　　In Briton Stevenson's taekwondo match against Chen Zhong, in which the Chinese was first announced as the winner. Stevenson filed a protest. The result was reversed after a review of the video which was unprecedented in the Olympic taekwondo history.

　　在北京科技大学体育馆进行的2008北京奥运会跆拳道女子67公斤以上级比赛第二场半决赛进行之前发生了令人震惊的一幕。原本在陈中与墨西哥选手埃斯皮诺萨之间进行的半决赛并未按计划的17点15分进行，而是由裁判长宣布了一条令观众心碎的消息，由于1/4决赛输给陈中的英国选手史蒂文森上诉，因此裁判组做出改判，判罚陈中落败无缘金牌战。
