A Wireless Station
“In the center of your heart and my heart there is a wireless station: so long as it receives messages of beauty, hope, cheer, courage and power from men and from the Infinite, so long are you young.”
----Samuel Ullman
To me, there is also a wireless station in my heart. But before I came to that poor playground, my aerials are down.
It lies in our branch campus of college—the poorest and barest playground I have ever seen. In the meantime, it is also one of the most unforgettable places in my memory, of course, not for its beauty, but for the inspiration it gives me.
When I first went there, the very thing that impressed me most was there was a huge tree in the right center of the playground which was bare. So that tree became very much a part of the open air and appeared distinct standing there. I could not figure out how it grew so well under such a condition. However, it was not long before I came to understand.
I still remember in a rainy day, when I walked to the teaching building, I was frightened by the storm doing its worst. The whole sky was covered with a grey curtain and everything that is lined on both sides of the path was risky. Clouds of dust rose around me. There was a time I could not move but stand still, hit by the storm. Eventually I arrived. But when I pulled my first step in, the sight of that playground came into my eyes. It had no sign of being hurt at all and remained simple and quiet just as what I first. As to that big tree, it was braving the storm so strongly that however vigorously the branches and leaves swayed, the bottom was as firm and calm as a rock. I stood there for a period of time, drifting back to think about the whole scene, and then I thought I had found out the answer.
The aerials of that playground are keeping catching waves of optimism and simplicity, so it is always strong. I want to be a strong girl and my wireless station was lit up from then on. I know I can make it, because that playground with a huge tree has lived into my heart
